to fix such reference marks as will enable the original position of the stakes removed to be found. In case the removal of a bench mark becomes necessary the Contractors shall establish to the satisfaction of the Engineer another one in its place.

22.

The Contractors shall at their own cost take such borings excavate Contractors to

23. The Contractors shall provide such sanitary accommodation and con- Sanitation. veniences as may be considered necessary by the Engineer, or by the Medical or Sanitary Authorities of the Colony.

24. In the event of illness of an epidemic nature breaking out, the Contractors Epidemics. shall carry out and comply with all such orders, arrangements or regulations as may be issued by the Medical or Sanitary Authorities of the Colony.

25. The Contractors shall at all times during the progress of the Works employ a duly authorised Agent to represent them for all the purposes of this Contract in such the Colony and shall give the Engineer due notice of the appointment of every Agent, and shall also provide and employ constantly upon the Works such or so many competent and responsible Engineers, Inspectors and Foremen to inspect, superintend and direct the same as the Engineer shall from time to time require and approve, to whom directions may be given in all matters relating to the Works, and also such number of experienced, fit and proper Agents and Overlookers for the efficient construction of the Works as shall in the opinion of the Engineer be required and the Contractors shall at all times employ as much labour of every description as the Engineer shall deem necessary.

26. The Contractors shall, on demand, furnish from time to time such returns as may be required by the Engineer of the number and description of the Engineers, Agents and Inspectors, Foremen, Workmen and others employed upon the work.

27. The Contractors shall forthwith dismiss and remove from the Work and site and from Government property and not again without the written permission of the Engineer employ any of their staff or their Agent or Agents, Foremen, Over- lookers, Mechanics or Workmen of whom the Engineer may disapprove or whom the Engineer shall consider incompetent or indifferently qualified or to have been guilty of misconduct or negligence.

28. The Contractors will be required to make their own arrangements with Local Labour, etc. regard to the provision of such labour, native or otherwise, as may be required for the works, but all such arrangements as affect the engagement, conveyance, paying, feeding and housing of such labour, or other matters in connection therewith, shall be in accordance with the general local usage and subject to such regulations as the Government may from time to time require to be observed.

29. The accommodation, mode of recruiting and payment of all native labour Provision as to employed by the Contractors for the purposes of this Contract, shall at all times be subject to the approval and control of the Government.

30. The Contractors, their Engineers, Agents and Workmen engaged on the Works shall be subject to, and in all respects strictly conform to, all Government rules and regulations for the time being in force.

31. The Contractors shall at all times during the progress of the Works take Contractors to all requisite precautions and use their best endeavours for preventing any riotous or unlawful behaviour by or amongst the workmen and others employed on the Works and for the preservation of the peace and protection of the inhabitants and the security of the property in the neighbourhood of the Works.
